Would you like to be a part of the most energetic, fun-loving group of volunteers around?
Volunteer for the Bicycle Tour of Colorado!
The BTC is a volunteer-powered tour that offers the best, most dedicated volunteer staff in Colorado. With a wide range of skills and exciting diversity, volunteering offers a wonderful opportunity to meet and work with great people who have made the choice to donate their time to one of the best road cycling tours in Colorado.
The 2011 tour runs from June 19-25, plus Tour Check-in day (June 18). Volunteers will receive the day off on June 23rd in a Colorado town, as well as several volunteer gatherings and parties.
The BTC provides volunteers with meal wristbands for breakfast, lunch and dinner to be used at our catered sites. During the day off, only breakfast will be served. The BTC does not cover the cost for meals other than those offered through the tour caterer. Meals and double-occupancy hotel rooms are available to volunteers who will be working the week on the tour on a first come, first served basis. Volunteers also receive a tour map book, free event T-shirt and other volunteer T-shirts to be worn during the week.
What can I do?
TOUR CHECK-IN
All volunteers help with checking in cyclists at Tour Check-In. This may include directing traffic/parking, checking ID's, attaching wristbands, answering general questions and selling BTC merchandise.
INFORMATION/AID BOOTH
The information/aid booth will be located near the outdoor camping site. Volunteers will provide services including local information provided by the Chamber of Commerce, message boards for the cyclists, lost and found, and tour information.
AID STATIONS
Our aid stations are legendary and are staffed by some of the friendliest volunteers around. The aid stations are located every 15-30 miles along the route. Volunteers will prepare, stock and serve water, energy drinks, and fruit. Restroom facilities are also provided at the aid stations. Creating a friendly environment for cyclists riding 60-90 miles a day is extremely important.
SAG SUPPORT
Any cyclist unable to continue for a ride related reason can use our support vehicles which are available to transport riders and bicycles to the next available aid station and/or destination town. Our SAG vans can hold 15 cyclists and their bicycles. SAG Drivers stop for riders on the side of the road who require assistance, due to injury, fatigue, etc.
BAGGAGE DRIVER
Cyclists can bring 2 bags that will be placed on the baggage trucks in the morning and dropped off at the campsite in the afternoon. Volunteers will transport bags each day from town to town. The baggage trucks will leave the indoor/outdoor campsite each morning beginning at 6:30am until 9am.
How long do I volunteer?
This year's tour runs from June 19-25, 2011 plus Tour Check-in day (June 18) and one day off. All volunteers will receive the day off on June 23rd in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, as well as several invitations to volunteer parties and gatherings.
Do I arrange my own accommodations?
The Bicycle Tour of Colorado will arrange a block of double occupancy hotel rooms in the various destination towns for use by BTC volunteers ONLY, on a first come, first serve basis. The BTC will not cover additional rooms or individuals beyond those on the rooming list.
Do I arrange my own meals?
The BTC provides volunteers with meal wristbands for breakfast, lunch and dinner to be used at our catered sites. During the day off, there will be catered breakfast only. The BTC does not cover any cost for meals other than those offered through the tour caterers.
What is the deadline for applying to volunteer?
